Sunny or cloudy disposition

Who is your favorite character in East of Eden? Why? and Who is your least favorite character in East of Eden? Why

  1. Samuel Hamilton is my favorite character in the novel because he is a self-educated immigrant from Northern Ireland, he demonstrates the positive principle of life. Although he farms the most barren land in the Salinas Valley, he is enormously prolific, fathering nine children and enjoying life to the fullest until the death of his favorite daughter Una saddens him deeply
    and permanently.
Cathy Ames/Kate is my least favorite character because she's the representative of Satan, and the most evil character in the novel, Cathy, who will be named Kate in the second half of the book, is a parasite who embodies
evil. As more than one character points out, Cathy lacks some human quality. She murders her parents by setting fire to their house and becomes the mistress of pimp Mr. Edwards. She is rescued by Adam Trask when Edwards leaves her for dead. After giving birth to twin sons, Cal and Aron, she shoots Adam when he
attempts to stop her from leaving.

  2. Cathy Ames, or also known as Kate, is my favorite character of the novel. I find her the most complex character and extremely antagonistic throughout the story. She is the only character that lacks any morality, as she will do anything to survive through life, even if it means hurting those close to her. Most mothers usually would care for their children, but Cathy could care less what would happen to them, showing that she lacks the motherly love that comes naturally to all mothers when raising newborns. It’s as if she makes life out as a survival game, as her marriage to Adam was only considered by her for a means to remain safe from society. She lacks no remorse for her actions, from burning down her house and killing her parents to manipulating men to get what she wants, shows that Cathy is the embodiment and representation of evil, which is a quality not seen through most of the other characters.
My least favorite character is Adam, as he seems extremely wimpy for a male. I don’t understand why he would lie and say that he shot himself by accident just to protect Cathy, when it’s obvious Cathy has no feelings for him. I understand Adam is gentle and cares for his “wife”, but the whole situation seems to unrealistic. If someone I loved didn’t show me the same type of respect I gave to them, then I wouldn’t bother with building a relationship with them. I would definitely like Adam more if his personality was manlier. -Shaun

  3. My favorite character is Charles because even though he beat up his brother while they were children, you could see that he was just jealous of him. Now that they are older, Charles tries to protect Adam.from Cathy because he feels that she is up to something. This shows me that he cares a lot about his brother. My least favorite character was Cathy because she is the representation on evil. She has faked her death to get away from her first lifestyle to start a new one. However, that didn't work out very well and Mr. Edwards decided to beat her up because she was a lier

  4. Unfortunately, I don't have a favorite character. I find them all annoying, one way or another. If I had to give it to someone, it would be Adam Trask simply because he has a good heart. I dislike him too because he is too nice, and it somewhat relates to me.

The worst character in the book is Charles Trask. I hate how bossy, arrogant, and manipulative he is. He is clingy to Adam and I don't appreciate this character, not respect him.

  5. - My favorite character in the story is Samuel Hamilton. He seems to go with the flow and doesn't stress about anything. I believe that he tries to take in as much education he can get and tries to pass down that habit to his family.

    - My least favorite would be Ms.Trask. I really admire her for her religiousness but I don't like the way she committed suicide and left her family alone.

  6. I like Adam Trask. He is calm and not a trouble maer like his brother. He is nothing like his father. And I have sympathy for him because he seems like he doesn't belong. You can't pick your family and I bet he wish he could of.

  7. Cal Trask is my favorite character in the book because he is a smart young man who is always thinking and knows how to get inside of peoples minds. He understands when other people are trying to play tricks on him. For instance, when the little girl Arba comes to his house he notices that she is trying to play many mind games with him and by him being a wise little boy he then plays mind games back but in a worse way.
My least favorite character is Cathy Ames/Kate. I strongly dislike her because she is a person who has nothing but pure hate for society and likes to destroy things that are good which reminds me of satan. Cathy/Kate always is finding a way to get over people and prosper without doing her fair share of work. For instance, when she moves into the whorehouse she instantly begins to find Faye's weak points and slowly begins to kill her so she can then take over the home and become rich and once Faye then becomes very ill she kills her and inherits everything.

  8. My favorite character in east of eden is Cathy Ames/Kate because firstly she knows how to handle herself. she know what she wants and how to get it. I think she is very clever and smart although she goes over the limit, i love her determination.
My least favorite character in the book is Adam because I find him to be very sensitive and people are able to push him around and trick him into things. for example, how do you fall in love with a girl and don't know where she came from nor her last name? I found that very idiotic because he still married her. When she left him, he was taking it pretty hard and came up with the weakest lie ever. He should have listened to his brother and the little warning signs from Samuel and liza.

  9. My favorite character so far would have to be Samuel Hamilton. His personality resembles the personality of someone close to me. He seems to be a very hard and determined person. The fact that he views the glass as half full instead of half empty is significant to me. He helped raised his children with values that cannot be erased and that's why he shone out to me the most. I believe that parents have an irreplaceable spot in their children lives and Samuel executed his role fully. Also, raising his children came not as hard to him. He simply used his views and easy going personality to pave the way for his kids.
    Least Favorite: Charles
my dislike for him came about because of his devious actions against Adam. I felt that he had a dangerous love for him father and it led him to go crazy over the love Cyrus had for Adam. He simply couldn't come to terms with the reasons behind Cyrus's yearning for Adam's love and he took it to the extreme.

  10. My most favorite characters is a tie between Adam Trask, and Samuel Hamilton. I appreciate Adam's determination to make a good wife out of Cathy, regardless of the deceitful look that Charles Trask saw in her, and the warnings he gave him. Later I appreciate Adam's sudden determination to be a better father, and pick himself up for the life of his sons, Caleb and Aaron. Samuel Hamilton is also my favorite character, merely because he valued his life, and everything in it. If there was anything he did not understand, he did what could to broaden his knowledge on it. He enjoyed life, not obeying what his wife wanted, a dull, beyond boring life. He helped his friends whenever they needed something, and was an accepting man of everyone around him. He was also appreciative of the poverty he lived in, never asking for more or less because he was so grateful for EVERYTHING he had, as well as because his wife told him to.
My least favorite character is Kate because after becoming Faye's daughter, and being included in her will, she betrayed her trust, and tried to kill her every chance she had. Just to get to the $60,000. This is the worst of the worst character.

  11. i have to say that my favorite character thus far is Lee. He is a very shrewd and intelligent individual who sees the world as is and sculpts himself to fit in while always being in control. Adam, however disgusts me. He is not worthy to be called a man, unfit to be a father, and disappointing as a son. Overall, he is just a very pathetic person who fails, time and again, to see the good things life has to offer. He revolves his entire life around a woman he barely even knows, snivels and sulks for years when she leaves, pushes away the people who actually care about hm, and completely neglect his sons. Ugh.

  12. I do not have a favorite character from the book because i have not seen any character which stand out and caught my interest. My least favorite character is Charles, because he would take advantage of his brother(Adam)knowing that his brother is not going to make any complains or fight back.Adam is too humble because he never talks about his problems or disagree because he is afraid that Charles would find fault with anything Adam does.

  13. My favorite character is Samuel Hamilton because or his warm, charismatic personality. He is friendly and sees the beauty in everyone, from his stubborn and uptight wife to Lee, the Trasks' Chinese manservant who hides his true intellect and later befriends Samuel. My least favorite character is Charles Trask because he does not appreciate his brother while he is around, and even has contempt for him. At the age of 15, he purposely tries to kill Adam. But after Adam leaves to join the cavalry, Charles becomes closed-off and depressed. When Adam returns, the two brothers are constantly on the verge of fighting. Charles even sleeps with Adam's wife the day they marry, and literally steals his brother's own wedding night from him!
